IASA — Institute of Advanced Science for Agriculture — is a School of Advanced Studies, established in 2026 by the Italian Ministry of University and Research as a postgraduate institution dedicated to doctoral education, advanced research and innovation in the agrifood system.
“We are developing new skills for an international, inclusive, and sustainable agri-food system”
Our Mission
IASA’s mission is to educate outstanding researchers and leaders for the agrifood system through advanced interdisciplinary research, rigorous doctoral training, international cooperation and strong engagement with society, institutions and industry. The School generates and transfers frontier knowledge across the agrifood value chain to address complex challenges related to sustainability, innovation, competitiveness, food quality, food security, food safety, nutrition, resilience and responsible development.
A distinctive element of IASA’s mission is its commitment to the international development of agricultural and agrifood systems, with a particular focus on Africa. Through research partnerships, education, capacity building, technology transfer and cooperation with local and international actors, IASA contributes to sustainable agricultural development, food security, food safety, rural innovation, climate resilience and inclusive growth.
IASA aspires to be a leading international School of Advanced Studies for the agrifood system, recognised for scientific excellence, advanced research, interdisciplinary integration, innovation capacity, global responsibility and societal impact. Its vision is to shape the future of food and agriculture by developing talent, knowledge and breakthrough solutions for agrifood systems that are sustainable, safe, resilient, inclusive and globally connected.
In this perspective, Africa represents a strategic priority: a continent with which IASA aims to build long-term scientific, educational, institutional and entrepreneurial partnerships, co-producing knowledge and innovation for the transformation of agriculture and food systems at global scale.
